February 19, 2025: Mumbai Indians (MI) produced a dominant performance at Kotambi Stadium, defeating Gujarat Giants (GG) by five wickets in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The victory was built on MI’s steady chase of a modest target of 121, as they capitalized on Gujarat’s batting inconsistencies to seal the win.
Stacy-Ann King, speaking on JioHotstar, offered her insights into Gujarat Giants’ performance. She pointed out that the team’s aggressive approach, especially after losing early wickets, hurt them. “They were a bit too aggressive too early, and after losing the openers, they didn’t build partnerships,” King said. She emphasized the need for better starts and middle-order contributions to set a competitive total. “They’ve got the bowling, but they need to focus on their batting to post a defendable total.”

Despite promising performances with the ball, Gujarat Giants’ inability to put together a challenging total ultimately cost them. As the tournament continues, Gujarat will aim to correct these batting issues and improve their chances in future matches.
