Divya Dutta, celebrated for her powerful performances in movies like ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, and ‘Veer Zaara’, steps into the role of Kiran Sharma in Tahira Kashyap’s directorial venture, ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’. This film dives deep into the nuances of middle-class life, capturing the essence of dreams, aspirations, and the coming-of-age moments of women from varied backgrounds.

In ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’, Dutta plays Kiran Sharma, a simple woman who finds joy in the little things. Reflecting on her experience, she shared with ANI, “Tahira has crafted each scene with such beauty that all my wishes for how a scene or line should be were already fulfilled in her writing. All I had to do was enjoy myself, which I thoroughly did. This story, this role, is a part of me, and that felt wonderful.”

Divya particularly cherished the whimsical side of Kiran, stating, “I loved the crazy side of Kiran. I think this will be one of my finest work experiences.” Her character is a woman who, despite being content with her family, grapples with feeling unnoticed and seeks to rediscover her identity. “Kiran Sharma comes from a small town and is trying to find her footing in Mumbai. Her husband is busy, and her children have their own lives, leaving her feeling lost in the vast city. In this chaos, she tries to find herself, and that’s the beauty of this role,” she elaborated.

‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’ is a story that intricately weaves the lives of its characters, making them deeply relatable. Divya further discussed the film’s unique title, “Different Sharmaji have different daughters who somehow connect, revealing a commonality between them. The film beautifully portrays the diverse journeys of five women and their ways of dealing with life’s challenges.”

Sakshi Tanwar, another prominent actress in the film, plays Jyoti Sharma, a teacher navigating the complexities of her relationship with her teenage daughter. Known for her roles in ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’, ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’, and ‘Dangal’, Sakshi described her character, “Jyoti is always balancing her dreams, societal expectations, and the challenges posed by her teenage daughter. It’s a very relatable story, highlighting the daily struggles of working women with a blend of humor and heartwarming moments.”

Saiyami Kher, seen in ‘Ghoomer’, portrays a character passionate about cricket. “I connected with the script. My character loves cricket but isn’t appreciated by her boyfriend. By the film’s end, she stands up for herself and her dreams,” Saiyami shared.

Although ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’ focuses on the lives of different women, Divya Dutta emphasized that the film transcends gender-specific narratives. “It’s a story of normal people facing various challenges. It’s about inner strength and resilience, applicable to everyone. While it inspires, it normalizes the struggles without solely focusing on women’s empowerment. It’s a lovely film with a compelling story.”

Featuring Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta, and Saiyami Kher in lead roles, along with Vanshika Taparia, Arista Mehta, Sharib Hashmi, and Parvin Dabas, ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’ is a heartfelt portrayal of everyday life and is now available on Prime Video.
