“Vijay Varma Takes Command in Tense Thriller ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’

The much-anticipated trailer for the Vijay Varma-starrer series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack has officially dropped, promising a nail-biting experience for viewers.

In this gripping series, Vijay Varma steps into the role of a pilot caught in the middle of one of India’s most notorious hijacking incidents.

Set against the backdrop of the real-life hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight IC-814, the six-episode series plunges audiences into the high-stakes drama that unfolded at 30,000 feet. The series meticulously follows the tense days after the aircraft was taken hostage by five terrorists on December 24, 1999, just 40 minutes after it took off from Kathmandu. The plane, carrying around 180 passengers, was held hostage for seven harrowing days, moving across Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai before finally landing in Kandahar, Afghanistan, where the ordeal concluded on December 31, 1999.

Adapted from the book Flight Into Fear by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury, the series promises an intense and immersive portrayal of the events.

Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, highlighted the significance of the show, stating, “IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is a gripping tale that chronicles one of the longest hijackings in Indian history, offering a real account of a colossal international crisis. Directed by the master filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, known for his gritty and realistic cinema, the series doesn’t just recount the events; it immerses you in the emotional whirlwind of a nation gripped by fear, hope, and desperation.”

The stellar cast, including Arvind Swami, Dia Mirza, Pooja Gor, Patralekhaa, Amrita Puri, Kumud Mishra, and Manoj Pahwa, brings depth to this high-octane drama, making it a must-watch.

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack will be available on Netflix starting August 29.
