This season has been particularly tough for both players. Rohit finished with a mere 133 runs in five Tests at an average of 13.30, including only one half-century. His performances throughout the home series—scores of 6, 5, 23, 8, 2, 52, 0, 8, 18, and 11—reflect his ongoing struggles. Overall, in 11 Tests this year, he has averaged 29.40, which is the lowest since he began opening in 2019.

Kohli’s performance was slightly better but still concerning, especially against spin. He accumulated 192 runs in five Tests at an average of 21.33, with a top score of 70. His scores included a mix of low single digits, underscoring his difficulties at the crease. In total, Kohli has scored 250 runs in 12 Test innings this year, averaging 22.72, with just one fifty.

As India prepares for the Australian tour, both players will need to turn their form around quickly. Success in the series is crucial for India to secure a place in the ICC World Test Championship final at Lord’s next year. The upcoming matches will be critical not only for their individual careers but also for the team’s aspirations on the international stage.
