Warner Bros Pictures Animation is embarking on an exciting new project, adapting Animal Planet’s acclaimed documentary series ‘Meerkat Manor’ into a full-length animated film. Inspired by the success of franchises like ‘Happy Feet’, the studio aims to transport audiences to the Kalahari Desert, where the charming meerkats of the Whiskers family reside, as confirmed by Deadline. Originally broadcast on Discovery’s Animal Planet in 2005, ‘Meerkat Manor’ garnered widespread acclaim, captivating viewers with the captivating tales of the Whiskers family’s adventures and struggles.
The Emmy-nominated documentary series, renowned for its compelling storytelling and breathtaking cinematography, gained a devoted global following, reaching millions of households worldwide. According to Deadline, the upcoming animated adaptation will employ cutting-edge photoreal animation techniques to bring the magic of the original series to life, promising viewers a visually stunning and immersive cinematic experience. Produced by Seth Green and Tracy Falco of The Green Room, with original series creator Caroline Hawkins and Clare Birks of Oxford Scientific Films serving as executive producers, the film is poised to introduce audiences to the beloved meerkat characters in a whole new light.
In an interview obtained by Deadline, Bill Damaschke, President of Warner Bros Pictures Animation, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We look forward to creating a photoreal animated family adventure for the next generation and seeing our meerkat friends make their feature film debut in a way they’ve never been seen before.” With production already underway and excitement mounting, creator Caroline Hawkins expressed her joy at the prospect of bringing her beloved characters to the big screen, stating, “Warner Bros is the natural home for this movie, and I am delighted to be partnering with Tracy, Seth, and Bill whose visionary expertise is second to none.”
