“We didn’t start well with bat, didn’t finish well”: Sam Curran

After suffering a three-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their latest Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter, Punjab Kings (PBKS) interim captain Sam Curran reflected on his team’s performance and their adaptation to the Mullanpur Stadium, their new home ground for this season.

Despite the setback, which pushed PBKS down to eighth place on the leaderboard with only two wins from six games, Curran was optimistic. “The pitch was a bit slow, and honestly, we didn’t bat well at the start or the end of our innings. However, the tail-enders did a commendable job by pushing us near the 150-mark, which was a solid effort given the conditions,” he noted.

Curran, stepping in for the injured Shikhar Dhawan, highlighted the team’s effective bowling and fielding, despite the narrow loss. “It’s tough to digest such close defeats—we lost by just two runs and three wickets in recent games. Yet, I’m proud of how we’ve managed to nearly master this venue in just three matches. Our first win here was uplifting, and the tight games have shown our potential to compete strongly,” Curran added.

The stand-in skipper concluded with confidence in his team’s resilience, “I believe we’ll make a strong comeback in the upcoming matches. The team is getting to grips with the challenging conditions here at Mullanpur, and we’re ready to turn these narrow losses into wins.”
