Falling debris from intercepted Iranian missiles leaves 12 hurt, gas facility hit

April 3, 2026: At least 12 people, including five Indian nationals, were injured in Abu Dhabi after debris from intercepted Iranian missiles fell in the Ajban area on Friday. According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, seven Nepali nationals were also among the injured. The casualties were caused by shrapnel from missile interception, highlighting the risks even when air defence systems successfully neutralise incoming threats.

The attack comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and regional powers, with Tehran warning of retaliatory strikes following attacks on its infrastructure. Iranian military officials have issued strong statements, saying any assault on bridges, power plants or energy facilities would trigger severe countermeasures.

Meanwhile, authorities in United Arab Emirates confirmed that operations at the Habshan gas facility were suspended after debris from intercepted strikes sparked a fire. The UAE defence ministry said its air defence systems intercepted 18 ballistic missiles, four cruise missiles and 47 drones in the latest wave of attacks. Since the conflict began, hundreds of missiles and drones have been neutralised, though the strikes have also resulted in casualties among military personnel and civilians of multiple nationalities.
