Regional conflict triggers airspace closures, global aviation disruption

February 28, 2026: Major Indian carriers Air India and IndiGo have suspended operations to the Middle East as the conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies. The move follows reports of strikes and escalating hostilities affecting airspace across the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Jordan, disrupting key aviation corridors linking India with West Asia.

Air India announced a blanket suspension of flights to all destinations in the region, citing passenger and crew safety as its top priority. The airline said it is closely monitoring the evolving security environment and will resume services once conditions stabilise. IndiGo also cancelled flights to and from affected areas, referencing airspace restrictions around Iran and the wider Middle East. The carrier advised passengers to check flight status before departure and offered options for rebooking or full refunds.

The disruption extends beyond Indian airlines, with global carriers such as Air France, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Japan Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines and Wizz Air rerouting or cancelling services to avoid conflict-hit airspace. Aviation authorities across multiple countries are reviewing flight paths and imposing temporary closures as hostilities continue to escalate.
