July 11, 2025: Texas State Senator Angela Paxton has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, after nearly four decades of marriage. Court records from Collin County confirm the filing, which Angela Paxton later addressed in a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter).
“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant, and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” she wrote. “But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.” She cited “biblical grounds” for the divorce and added, “I move forward with complete confidence that God is always working everything together for the good of those who love Him.”

Although the senator did not mention any affair in her post, social media users are widely speculating that the move is linked to Attorney General Paxton’s alleged extramarital affair with Laura Olson — a name that surfaced during his 2023 impeachment proceedings.
Olson was reportedly in a relationship with Paxton that began in 2018. According to Katherine ‘Missy’ Cary, Paxton’s former chief of staff, she overheard Olson speaking about Paxton “in a very personal way” at a restaurant in Austin. At first, Paxton described Olson as his realtor but later admitted to the affair, Cary testified.
The scandal deepened when Olson was tied to bribery allegations involving Paxton’s political donor, Nate Paul. Olson reportedly worked at Paul’s real estate firm in 2019–2020, during which time Paxton allegedly misused his office to aid Paul — including helping Olson relocate to Austin.
Olson, a mother of two and four-time divorcee, previously worked with Senator Donna Campbell and has also been linked to former San Antonio Councilman Clayton Perry.
Ken Paxton addressed the divorce in a social media statement, saying: “After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives. I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren. I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time.”
