Bills' Injury Woes Continue At Training Camp With Top Pick Maxwell Hairston Going Down
Orchard Park, NY | July 29, 2025: The Buffalo Bills’ training camp continues to be plagued by injuries, with the latest significant setback coming on Tuesday as first-round rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston was helped off the field with what appeared to be a lower body injury. The highly anticipated draft pick was visibly distressed as trainers assisted him to the medical tent, raising concerns about the severity of his condition. Early reports suggest the injury might be to his right knee.
Injuries have unfortunately become the dominant storyline at Bills camp this year, particularly impacting the offensive side of the ball, with a notable number of wide receivers and tight ends sidelined. The growing list of players out of commission has forced the coaching staff to adapt on the fly.
Offensive Coordinator Joe Brady acknowledged the pervasive issue, emphasizing that while injuries are an unwelcome part of the game, they also present opportunities. “Injuries happen,” Brady stated. “It just gives you an opportunity… you have to adjust with everything. So, sometimes in training camp, we’re going through it right now, with injuries and us having to adjust like we are in game.”
Brady further elaborated on the unexpected benefits of navigating these challenges. “It kind of gets your process going with some things that might not show up as early as you kind of hope that they do. But I’m enjoying it right now. We got a great group of guys that makes my life a lot easier going through it,” he added, highlighting the resilience and adaptability of his team.
Hairston’s injury is particularly concerning given his status as a first-round pick and his potential to contribute immediately to the Bills’ secondary. He was reportedly in a battle for the starting CB2 spot, even showing impressive flashes during earlier practices. His departure from the field was observed by teammates like Christian Benford and Tre’Davious White, who reportedly came over to console the young corner.
The Bills are set to have a day off on Wednesday, which will provide a much-needed break for the team and an opportunity for the medical staff to further evaluate Hairston and other injured players. Practice will resume on Thursday, with eyes peeled for updates on the rookie’s status and the overall health of the squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.
