"Absolutely Scandalous": British Commentator David Vance Slams Pakistan Army Chief's 'Insane' Nuclear Threats
Belfast, Ireland – August 12, 2025: The diplomatic fallout from Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir’s reported nuclear threats has intensified, with British political commentator and author David Vance launching a blistering attack on Monday. Vance called the General’s comments “absolutely scandalous and disgraceful,” adding that the idea of a nuclear exchange with India was “insane.”
In a scathing rebuke, Vance praised India’s response as “measured and coherent” and stated that Munir “shouldn’t be allowed to get away with such inflammatory comments.”
His strongest criticism, however, was directed at the United States. Vance expressed frustration over what he sees as Washington’s tolerance of Pakistan’s behavior, saying, “I would like to see the US break off diplomatic relations with Pakistan until it starts to behave like a civilised country, which it hasn’t in a long time.”
Vance also criticized President Donald Trump’s administration for not reacting more strongly, suggesting that Munir’s comments, made on American soil, were a “calculated insult.” He added, “I don’t understand why America or President Trump tolerates this. Pakistan seems to think they can say whatever they want on such sensitive issues.”
Vance’s remarks come after reports that Munir, during his visit to Florida, said Pakistan could use nuclear weapons against India in the event of an “existential threat,” a move that would also take down “half the world.”
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi had already issued a strong official statement in response to the comments. Calling the remarks “nuclear sabre-rattling,” the MEA spokesperson said the international community could draw its own conclusions about the “irresponsibility” of such statements. The ministry also raised a serious concern about the “integrity of nuclear command and control in a state where the military is hand-in-glove with terrorist groups.”
The MEA statement concluded by reaffirming India’s resolve to not give in to “nuclear blackmail” and to take all necessary steps to safeguard its national security.
