Twin earthquakes in the US and Indonesia cause panic, damage, and one fatality

The quake, initially recorded at 5.1, was later revised to 4.9. Tremors were felt across San Jose and nearby regions. The epicentre was located near Boulder Creek at a depth of 10.9 km, with residents reporting strong shaking during the early morning hours.

Meanwhile, a powerful 7.4 magnitude undersea earthquake struck parts of Indonesia, triggering panic and a small tsunami. The tremors, lasting up to 20 seconds, were felt in areas including Bitung and Ternate. People rushed out of their homes as buildings shook, with initial reports indicating damage ranging from minor to severe, including houses and a church.

Authorities confirmed that a 70-year-old woman died in a building collapse in Manado, while several others were injured and hospitalized. Rescue teams are continuing damage assessments, with visuals showing flattened houses and structural damage. The twin seismic events have raised concerns, though officials are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further risk.
