Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was struck by gunfire while addressing students in Utah, sparking panic on campus and swift response from authorities.
Utah [US], September 11: A shocking incident unfolded on Wednesday at Utah Valley University when right-wing political commentator Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck while delivering a speech.
According to university officials, the attack happened about 20 minutes into Kirk’s presentation when gunfire rang out from a nearby building. Students and attendees were thrown into chaos as panic spread across the campus.
Eyewitness footage from the event captured the terrifying moments—students sprinting to safety as the sound of gunshots echoed, while Kirk, seated under a tent emblazoned with the words “The American Comeback,” appeared to collapse backward, bleeding from his neck.
The university confirmed that Kirk was the only person injured. The suspected shooter has already been taken into custody.
The FBI’s Utah office quickly dispatched agents to the scene. FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X, expressing concern:
“We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”
At least three separate videos circulating on social media captured the moment Kirk was struck, intensifying the shockwaves of the incident nationwide.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox said he was receiving regular updates from law enforcement. In his statement, he condemned the violence:
“Those responsible will be held fully accountable. Violence has no place in our public life.”
Political leaders across the country reacted strongly. Senator Lindsey Graham called the shooting a “sick and despicable attack,” while fellow Republicans Ted Cruz and Katie Britt said they were praying for Kirk’s recovery.
The investigation is ongoing as the nation watches closely.
