June 24, 2025: Israel has accused Iran of violating a recently agreed-upon ceasefire and vowed to retaliate with force. In a statement shared on social media, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced, “In light of the severe violation of the ceasefire carried out by the Iranian regime, we will respond with force,” quoting Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
The ceasefire was part of a bilateral agreement brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump following days of escalating conflict. The truce was set to begin in two phases — with Iran initiating the ceasefire followed by Israel 12 hours later — leading to a formal end of the 12-day war after 24 hours.
Israel had initially agreed to the truce, citing that the main objectives of its military operation had been met. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office thanked the U.S. for its support, stating, “Israel agrees to the President’s proposal for a bilateral ceasefire and will respond forcefully to any violation.”
The conflict erupted on June 13 when Israel launched a sweeping offensive dubbed “Operation Rising Lion,” targeting Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure. Iran responded with “Operation True Promise 3,” a barrage of missiles and drones aimed at Israeli energy and fuel supply hubs.
The U.S. later entered the conflict with “Operation Midnight Hammer,” striking three Iranian nuclear sites. Iran countered by launching missiles at U.S. bases in Iraq and Qatar, including Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American military installation in the region.
Despite diplomatic efforts, the fragile ceasefire appears to be on the verge of collapse.
