Donald Trump to Meet Vladimir Putin in Alaska to Broker Ukraine Peace Deal

The highly anticipated meeting, announced on Truth Social, comes as the US President claims to be ‘very close to a deal’ that would involve a ‘swapping of territories’ to end the conflict.

Washington, D.C. – August 9, 2025: The world’s attention is set to turn north as U.S. President Donald Trump has officially announced a highly anticipated summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump revealed that the two leaders will meet next Friday, August 15, in Alaska, with the primary goal of brokering a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine.

“The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,” Trump wrote, adding that further details would follow.

The announcement brings a dramatic climax to a series of hints Trump had been dropping throughout the week. Earlier, while at the White House signing the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace accord, he framed the Russia-Ukraine conflict as another “fire” he was working to extinguish.

“I came in, and this whole world was on fire… We have only been here six months. The world was on fire, and we took care of just about every fire, and we’re working on another one very strongly with Russia and Ukraine,” Trump said, adding that his “highest aspiration is to bring peace and stability in the world.”

The President’s comments suggested that a deal was imminent. He revealed that negotiations were “very close,” and a peace deal would likely involve an “exchange of territory,” with some “swapping… to the betterment of both.” When asked about the peace efforts, Trump also shared a stunning detail, stating that “Russia, as you know, lost almost 25,000 over the last month and a half. Ukraine lost just a few, and lots of people are dying.”

Trump’s self-assured tone extended to his relationship with European nations and NATO, claiming, “I became very friendly with them and agreed to go from 2 per cent to 5 per cent that they have already paid.” He added that he was in close contact with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is “getting everything he needs” in anticipation of a successful outcome. The meeting, which Trump indicated he wanted to happen sooner, was delayed due to “security arrangements.”

With a high-stakes meeting now officially on the calendar, the world will be watching to see if a peace deal that Trump claims is “very close” can finally be reached.
