Unidentified UAVs Fly Over Fort McNair, Security Tightened

March 19, 2026: Unidentified drones have been spotted flying over Fort Lesley J. McNair, a key US military base where senior officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth reside. According to reports, multiple drones were detected on a single night within the past 10 days, prompting immediate security concerns. Authorities have not yet identified the origin of these drones, even as tensions remain high due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The sightings have triggered a broader security response across US military installations. Bases such as Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and MacDill Air Force Base have raised their threat levels to “Charlie,” indicating credible intelligence of a potential threat. At MacDill, which hosts United States Central Command, authorities also dealt with incidents including a suspicious package and a temporary lockdown, now under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The drone activity has raised concerns about the safety of top leadership, with officials even considering relocating Rubio and Hegseth, though both remain at the base. Fort McNair, home to the National Defense University, holds strategic importance due to its proximity to key government centers like the White House and Capitol Hill. The incident adds to growing concerns over drone threats in the US, especially amid heightened geopolitical tensions and past warnings of potential retaliation linked to earlier conflicts.
