Missile alerts spark explosions; UAE, Qatar activate defence systems
March 17,2026: Residents in Dubai and Doha were jolted early Tuesday after multiple explosions were reported shortly after missile threat alerts were issued. According to AFP, at least three blasts were heard in Dubai, while similar explosions were confirmed in Doha by international media. Authorities in both cities quickly activated emergency protocols, urging people to prioritise safety as air defence systems were deployed.
In the United Arab Emirates, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority said defence systems were actively intercepting missile and drone threats. Residents received mobile alerts instructing them to immediately seek shelter. In Qatar, officials issued similar advisories, asking people to stay indoors and avoid windows or open areas as a precaution while the situation was monitored in real time.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia confirmed that multiple drones over its eastern region were intercepted before causing damage, highlighting heightened security across the region. Amid rising tensions, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, with both leaders reaffirming coordination to address evolving security challenges.
