Washington DC [US], January 15: Tesla CEO Elon Musk stirred nostalgia on social media by praising the inventor of Diet Coke as a "genius," reflecting his well-known admiration for the popular soda. Musk's comment came alongside an image of former US President Donald Trump receiving a commemorative Diet Coke bottle from Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey.
The custom glass bottle, gifted to Trump during his presidency, featured a unique label showcasing the White House and the slogan, "The Inauguration of the President of the United States Donald J. Trump." The accompanying note from Coca-Cola highlighted the company’s 126-year legacy and economic contributions in the United States.
Margo Martin, Trump's Deputy Director of Communications, shared a photo of the bottle, sparking Musk’s commentary. “The inventor of Diet Coke is a genius,” Musk wrote in his post on X (formerly Twitter).
This isn't the first time Diet Coke has been in the spotlight. In 2012, Trump famously tweeted, “I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke,” despite his well-documented love for the soda. During his presidency, Trump reportedly consumed up to 12 cans of Diet Coke daily, with a "Diet Coke button" installed on the Resolute Desk to summon staffers for his favorite drink.
Elon Musk also revealed his own “drinking problem” with Diet Coke earlier this month, sharing an image of his bedside table laden with six empty cans of the beverage.
Following Trump’s presidency, reports emerged in January 2021 that his successor, President Joe Biden, removed the "Diet Coke button" from the Oval Office.
