The blast occurred around 1 a.m. local time in Oslo, the capital of Norway. Witnesses told local media that a loud explosion was heard near the embassy compound in the western part of the city, followed by smoke rising from the area.
Police spokesperson Mikael Dellemyr confirmed that the explosion struck the American diplomatic facility. Speaking to public broadcaster NRK, he said the blast occurred near the entrance to the consular section of the embassy building. Authorities deployed heavily armed units and drones to secure the area and begin an investigation.
Officials said the cause of the explosion and the person or group responsible remain unknown. The Oslo Police District said officers are coordinating with embassy officials and confirmed that no injuries have been reported. The United States Department of State and embassy authorities had not issued an immediate response outside regular working hours.
