Explosions Rock Central Dubai
Intercepted drone debris causes minor damage amid rising West Asia tensions
March 13, 2026: Explosions were heard across parts of Dubai on Friday, shaking buildings in the Middle East’s major financial hub and sending thick smoke into the sky, according to correspondents from Agence France-Presse. An AFP reporter said the initial blast was powerful enough to rattle nearby buildings and was followed by another loud explosion shortly afterward. Videos from the area showed a large plume of smoke hanging over a central part of the city.
The Dubai Media Office later said debris from a successfully intercepted aerial threat caused a “minor incident” on the exterior of a building in central Dubai. Authorities confirmed that there were no injuries and described the damage as limited. Officials stated that the debris fell after air defence systems intercepted the incoming object before it could strike its intended target.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions across West Asia following escalating conflict involving Iran and its regional adversaries. A drone had crashed near Dubai’s financial district a day earlier after Tehran warned it could target economic institutions in the region. Since the conflict intensified, the United Arab Emirates has faced several strikes attributed to Iran, raising security concerns across key commercial hubs.
