Hadi Murder Case: Party Rejects Police Chargesheet

Inquilab Moncho alleges state role in killing, warns of agitation if justice denied

January 7, 2026: The party of slain Bangladeshi student leader Sharif Osman Hadi has rejected the police chargesheet in his murder case, alleging that the state machinery itself was involved in the killing. Inquilab Moncho, to which Hadi belonged, dismissed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s claim that the murder was carried out on the instructions of a local Awami League-linked ward councillor. Party leaders said the chargesheet, filed against 17 accused including prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud, fails to reflect the true scale of responsibility behind the crime.

Addressing a ‘March for Justice’ programme, Inquilab Moncho member secretary Abdullah al Jaber said the party does not accept a chargesheet that limits the conspiracy to a ward-level politician. He alleged the involvement of a wider “criminal syndicate” backed by state institutions and warned that the party’s peaceful protests would continue until all those responsible are named. Jaber further cautioned that public anger could escalate if justice is denied, accusing the authorities of ignoring public sentiment and trivialising a politically sensitive murder.

Hadi, 32, who rose to prominence during the July–August 2024 mass protests that led to the fall of the Hasina-led government, was shot during an election campaign in Dhaka on December 12 and died six days later despite treatment in Singapore. His killing has triggered renewed political unrest in Bangladesh and strained ties with India, after some groups alleged an Indian link — claims New Delhi has strongly rejected. India has called for a thorough investigation, while security agencies in Meghalaya and the BSF have denied Bangladeshi police assertions that the suspects fled into Indian territory.
