May 19, 2025: In a major step toward deepening bilateral relations, Eduardo Enrique Reina Garcia, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Honduras, concluded an official visit to India from May 15 to 18, 2025, highlighted by the inauguration of Honduras’ new embassy in New Delhi.
During the visit, Foreign Minister Reina Garcia held comprehensive discussions with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, reviewing the full spectrum of India-Honduras ties, including political cooperation, trade and investment, development partnerships, and cultural exchange.

As partners in the Global South, both leaders explored enhanced collaboration in key areas such as healthcare, digital transformation, energy, disaster management, and capacity building. The two sides also shared perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Minister Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Honduras’ strong stance against terrorism in all forms.
A major highlight was the joint inauguration of the Embassy of the Republic of Honduras in New Delhi on May 15. Marking the occasion, Jaishankar posted on social media platform X:“Delighted to jointly inaugurate the Embassy of Republic of Honduras along with FM Enrique Reina today in Delhi. This inauguration marks a new milestone in our partnership, centred on mutual respect and mutual commitment…”
In his remarks, Jaishankar congratulated the Government and people of Honduras, stating that the establishment of the embassy represents a new chapter in the warm and longstanding relations between the two countries. The embassy is expected to act as a vibrant hub for strengthening cooperation across sectors like trade, tourism, health, agriculture, and innovation.
The development also underscores India’s growing engagement with Latin America and the Caribbean, reflecting a broader foreign policy orientation towards diversified global partnerships.
India and Honduras have shared friendly relations for years. In May 2022, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakashi Lekhi, visited Honduras, meeting with President Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento and other top officials to reinforce bilateral cooperation.
Although the Indian community in Honduras is small, comprising around 25 individuals including missionary nuns, cultural exchanges have grown. In October 2022, the Indian Embassy hosted the first-ever Diwali celebration in Honduras, drawing participation from the local community and symbolizing deeper people-to-people ties.
