India Extends Visas For Stranded Foreigners

Govt waives overstay penalties amid West Asia travel disruptions

March 14, 2026: Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia that have disrupted international travel, the Government of India has announced temporary immigration relief for foreign nationals stranded in the country. Authorities said visas of affected travelers will be extended by 30 days free of charge as the regional conflict continues to affect flights and leave passengers unable to return home.

The announcement was shared by the Consulate General of India in Dubai through a post on X. Officials said all categories of visas, including regular visas and e-visas, that are expiring soon will be extended on a case-by-case basis by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). In addition, penalties for overstaying visas after February 28, 2026 will be waived for foreign nationals affected by the crisis.

The government has also announced that exit permits will be issued free of charge once travelers are able to depart. Passengers arriving in India due to diverted flights will be granted Temporary Landing Permits without any fee, allowing them to remain legally in the country until onward travel becomes possible. Officials said the measures are aimed at supporting travelers caught in the disruption while aviation routes across parts of the region remain affected.
