New Delhi [India], November 19: India has released the second tranche of USD 2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), completing its annual contribution of USD 5 million for the year 2024-25, the Representative Office of India to Palestine announced on Monday.
India's sustained support to Palestinian refugees has amounted to USD 40 million over the years, directed toward UNRWA’s core programs and services, including education, healthcare, relief, and social services. The financial assistance underscores India’s commitment to the welfare and development of the Palestinian community.
In addition to monetary contributions, India has also provided humanitarian aid and medicines to support UNRWA’s responsibilities toward Palestinian refugees.
On Palestine’s Declaration of Independence Day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s enduring friendship and developmental partnership with Palestine.
“Warm felicitations to the Government and people of the State of Palestine on their Declaration of Independence Day. Committed to deepening our developmental partnership and long-standing friendship,” Jaishankar posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He highlighted India’s recent supply of 30 tons of medical supplies, including essential life-saving and anti-cancer drugs, to Palestine in October.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas in September during the Summit of the Future in New York. During the meeting, Modi expressed deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the worsening security situation in the region. He reiterated India’s unwavering support for the people of Palestine, including sustained humanitarian assistance.
India’s contributions reflect its commitment to global solidarity and support for marginalized communities, aligning with its long-standing tradition of fostering international cooperation and peace.
