India Issues Fresh Iran Travel Advisory
MEA urges Indians to avoid travel and asks those in Iran to leave amid protests
January 14, 2026: Amid escalating protests in Iran, the Indian government has issued a fresh travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid travelling to the country until further notice. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the decision was taken in view of the evolving security situation and growing anti-Khamenei demonstrations. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the advisory on X, reiterating that Indian nationals should refrain from visiting Iran at this time.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran has also advised Indians currently in Iran—including students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists—to leave the country using available means of transport, including commercial flights. In its January 14 advisory, the embassy asked citizens to stay away from protest areas, remain vigilant, and stay in regular contact with embassy officials while closely monitoring local developments.
Additionally, Indian nationals have been advised to keep their travel and immigration documents handy and reach out to the embassy for any assistance. Emergency helpline numbers have been shared, and citizens have been urged to register on the official portal, with families in India requested to assist if internet access is disrupted. The latest advisory follows a similar warning issued by the MEA on January 5, stressing caution and avoidance of non-essential travel to Iran.
