India Overtakes China, Israel In Key US Billionaires List; Jay Chaudhry Richest Indian-American

July 10, 2025: India has emerged as the leading country of origin for billionaire immigrants in the United States, according to Forbes’ “America’s Richest Immigrants 2025” list published on Wednesday. The list highlights that India now accounts for 12 billionaire immigrants, surpassing Israel and Taiwan, each with 11.

Among the Indian-American billionaires, Jay Chaudhry stands out as the wealthiest. The founder and CEO of cybersecurity firm Zscaler, Chaudhry has amassed a net worth exceeding $17.9 billion. Born in Panoh, a village in Himachal Pradesh, India, Chaudhry moved to the U.S. in 1980 for higher education. He later founded Zscaler in 2008, which went public in 2018. Prior to Zscaler, he founded four other tech companies, all of which were acquired.

The Forbes list underscores the significant contribution of immigrant entrepreneurs to the U.S. economy. Collectively, these 125 foreign-born billionaires hold a combined net worth of $1.3 trillion, accounting for 18% of America’s total billionaire wealth.

Other notable Indian-American billionaires featured in the list include Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet Inc., and Vinod Khosla, co-founder of Sun Microsystems and founder of Khosla Ventures. Their inclusion highlights the growing influence of the Indian diaspora in the American tech industry.
