India voices concern over rising civilian casualties in Lebanon, urges respect for international law.

April 10, 2026: India on Friday expressed deep concern over the rising number of civilian casualties in Lebanon amid continued Israeli military operations. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the situation was “very disturbing,” especially given India’s role as a troop contributor to the UN peacekeeping mission in the region. He stressed that protecting civilians must remain the top priority and called for strict adherence to international law and respect for sovereignty.

The conflict escalated after Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel, prompting a large-scale military response that has reportedly killed around 1,800 people and injured thousands. A single day of intense bombardment recently left over 300 dead, raising fears of a collapse in the fragile truce linked to Iran and the United States. India has maintained close contact with its citizens in Lebanon, ensuring their safety amid the escalating violence.

As tensions rise, India is also focusing on securing its energy interests and strengthening regional ties. Outreach efforts include high-level visits to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, while New Delhi continues to support neighbouring nations with fuel supplies. With over a million people displaced in Lebanon and ongoing evacuations from Iran, India is closely monitoring developments in West Asia, balancing humanitarian concerns with strategic priorities.
