Iran rejects claims of delegation visit to Pakistan, links talks with United States to Lebanon ceasefire.
April 10, 2026: Iran on Friday dismissed reports that its senior officials had travelled to Pakistan for talks with the United States, casting uncertainty over the proposed dialogue in Islamabad. State media outlets, including Tasnim and Fars News Agency, clarified that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf remain in Tehran and continue their official duties. The reports of a visiting delegation were termed “completely false.”
Iranian officials stated that any potential engagement with Washington is currently on hold, linking the decision directly to the ongoing conflict in Lebanon. According to sources, negotiations will not proceed unless a ceasefire is implemented and Israeli military actions come to a halt. This position was reinforced amid rising tensions following fresh airstrikes, which Tehran has strongly condemned.
The denial comes after conflicting reports, including a claim by The Wall Street Journal that an Iranian delegation had reached Islamabad. Adding to the confusion, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amir Moghadam, had earlier hinted at a visit before deleting his statement. With the situation in Lebanon intensifying, diplomatic efforts remain uncertain, even as President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s firm support for Lebanon and warned of consequences if hostilities continue.
