Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, Iran has reaffirmed its long-standing cultural and historical ties with India, particularly Gujarat, after an India-flagged LPG carrier safely transited the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.
Indian Vessel Completes Safe Passage Through Hormuz
The India-flagged LPG carrier Green Sanvi, carrying around 46,650 metric tonnes of LPG, successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday.
The passage marks the eighth Indian vessel to safely navigate the key maritime route since the escalation of the US–Iran conflict, underscoring continued energy security flows between India and the Gulf region.
Other Indian ships that have crossed the strait include Shivalik, Nanda Devi, Jag Laadki, Pine Gas, Jag Vasant, BW Tyr, and BW Elm.
Gujarat Calls Transit a Diplomatic Success
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi described the safe passage as “another victory for Indian diplomacy,” highlighting India’s efforts to ensure uninterrupted energy supplies despite regional instability.
Iran Responds, Cites Deep Historical Links
In response, the Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai emphasised the centuries-old civilisational connection between Iran and India.
Referring specifically to Gujarat, the Iranian mission stated that the region holds a “cherished place” in shared history, noting that people from Iran had been welcomed there centuries ago.
Iran reiterated its commitment to strengthening friendship and cooperation with India, framing the relationship as rooted in long-standing cultural bonds.
Strategic Importance of Hormuz Corridor
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global energy chokepoint, with India among the countries most dependent on safe passage through the route for oil and LPG imports.
Despite heightened tensions, multiple Indian vessels continue to transit the corridor safely under close monitoring.
Indian Authorities Monitor Maritime Safety
Officials have confirmed that all Indian ships and seafarers in the Persian Gulf are safe and under surveillance.
Reports also indicate that naval assets have been kept on standby to ensure the security of merchant shipping amid regional instability.
Continued Diplomatic Engagement
Iran has previously reassured India regarding maritime safety in the region, stating that Indian interests remain secure.
Both sides continue to maintain diplomatic communication while balancing strategic energy requirements and regional security concerns.
