Iran Internet Blackout As Protests Turn Nationwide

Khamenei targets Trump as deaths rise and US issues warning

January 10, 2026: Iran remains largely cut off from global communication networks as nationwide anti government protests intensify. Activists say at least 62 people have died since demonstrations began on December 28 over inflation shortages and currency collapse. The unrest spread rapidly across all provinces after exiled crown prince Reza Pahlavi called for mass mobilization.

As protests grew security forces imposed a sweeping internet shutdown and carried out mass detentions with more than 2270 people arrested. The blackout has disrupted daily life and international travel with several flights cancelled. Demonstrations have evolved from economic grievances into broader calls for political change across social groups.

Iranian leaders blamed the unrest on foreign interference accusing the United States and Israel. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei attacked US President Donald Trump while Washington rejected the claims. Trump warned of strong action if Iranian authorities use lethal force against protesters.
