Cluster missile attack escalates tensions in ongoing conflict

March 18, 2026: Iran launched a series of cluster-style missile strikes towards central Israel, targeting areas near Tel Aviv, as the conflict between Iran and Israel entered its third week. The attack reportedly hit the Ramat Gan area, killing two elderly civilians and injuring several others. The missiles, designed to release multiple warheads, caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure, including parts of a railway station.

The strike was claimed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which described it as retaliation for the killing of senior official Ali Larijani in recent Israeli airstrikes. Tehran has accused Israel of deliberately targeting high-ranking security figures, further intensifying hostilities. Reports also indicated that Gholamreza Soleimani was among those killed, with funerals expected soon.

As the confrontation continues, concerns are rising over the use of cluster munitions, which release smaller explosives and are harder to intercept. With the United States backing Israel, the situation is becoming increasingly volatile, raising fears of a broader regional conflict with no immediate signs of de-escalation.
