Cluster missile attacks on Israel; Tehran claims downing of US drones
March 17, 2026: The Middle East conflict has intensified further as Iran launched fresh attacks on Israel using cluster missiles, marking a sharp escalation. Explosions and heavy bombardment were reported across multiple regions. Iran also claimed it shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone, along with a total of 12 American drones, though independent verification remains unclear.
The overnight escalation saw widespread strikes across key cities including Tehran, Baghdad, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Manama, Tel Aviv and Beirut. Iranian forces reportedly targeted sites linked to US military presence and diplomatic facilities, including drone strikes near the US Embassy in Baghdad.
Meanwhile, a major explosion was reported near Fujairah Port, where an oil tanker caught fire, raising concerns over energy security. As the war enters its 18th day, continuous retaliatory strikes from multiple sides have heightened fears of a wider regional conflict.
