Drone and missile attacks widen regional conflict as Israel hits Beirut
March 3, 2026: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed it carried out a “massive drone and missile attack” on a US air base in Bahrain, according to Al Jazeera. The IRGC said it deployed 20 drones and three missiles, alleging that the strike destroyed the main command headquarters and ignited fuel tanks at the facility. US officials have not yet publicly confirmed the extent of the reported damage.
In a parallel escalation, the Israel Defense Forces launched airstrikes in Beirut, targeting what it described as Hezbollah command centres and weapons storage sites. The Iran-backed Hezbollah said it responded by launching drones aimed at an Israeli air base, signalling a rapid widening of hostilities across multiple fronts.
The Israeli military has also issued fresh evacuation orders for several locations across Lebanon, including warnings for residents in two southern Beirut neighbourhoods. With exchanges intensifying between Iran-linked groups and Israel, and US assets reportedly targeted in the Gulf, fears are mounting that the conflict could expand into a broader regional confrontation.
