Social media platform X experienced a temporary outage on Monday morning, June 22, 2026, leaving thousands of users unable to access the platform.
According to outage tracking website Downdetector, reports of technical problems surged shortly before 10:00 a.m. ET. However, the platform appeared to recover within a short period, and services gradually returned to normal.
More Than 15,000 Users Reported Problems
At the peak of the disruption, more than 15,000 users reported issues with X through Downdetector.
The complaints mainly involved difficulties accessing the platform, refreshing feeds, and using various features.
Fortunately, the number of reports began to decline by 10:20 a.m. ET, indicating that the outage was being resolved.
East Coast Cities Saw the Biggest Impact
The outage affected users across several parts of the United States.
Most reports came from major East Coast cities, including:
- New York City
- Boston
- Washington, D.C.
Meanwhile, users in Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta also reported experiencing technical problems during the disruption.
The issue appeared to be widespread rather than limited to a single region.
Platform Also Faced Issues a Day Earlier
This was not the first disruption in recent days.
On Sunday, June 21, X experienced another brief service interruption.
Downdetector recorded more than 2,600 user reports around 12:00 p.m. ET, suggesting that the platform had already faced stability issues before Monday’s larger outage.
Although the earlier incident was resolved quickly, the back-to-back disruptions caught the attention of users.
X Yet to Explain the Cause
As of now, X has not officially confirmed what caused the outage.
USA TODAY contacted the company for comment, but no official statement had been released at the time of reporting.
It also remains unclear whether the two recent outages are connected.
Service Appears to Be Working Again
The good news for users is that X appears to be functioning normally again.
The sharp drop in outage reports on Downdetector suggests that most users have regained access to the platform.
However, some users may continue to experience minor issues until services are fully stabilized.
