Jagmeet Singh Slams Trudeau’s Leadership, Calls for NDP Support Amid Political Crisis

Singh Criticizes Trudeau’s Policies, Warns Against Conservative Cuts, and Urges Canadians to Back NDP for Change

Ottawa [Canada], January 7: New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh has launched a scathing attack on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following his announcement to step down as Liberal Party leader and Prime Minister. Singh criticized Trudeau for failing to address key issues like housing, healthcare, and rising grocery costs, urging Canadians to support the NDP as an alternative.

🏛️ Trudeau’s Exit and Singh’s Response

Addressing Trudeau’s resignation, Singh remarked, “Justin Trudeau has let you down, over and over. He let you down on the cost of housing and groceries. He let you down on fixing health care. It doesn’t matter who leads the Liberals—they don’t deserve another chance.”

Singh accused the Conservative Party, led by Pierre Poilievre, of prioritizing corporate interests and wealthy CEOs over ordinary Canadians.

“Conservatives are jumping at the opportunity to take from you and give more to CEOs. You will pay the price of Poilievre’s cuts. If you oppose callous Conservative cuts; if you oppose the rich getting richer while everyone else falls further behind—stand with the NDP this time. You can have a government that works for you for a change,” Singh said in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).

📢 Parliament Prorogued: Singh Calls it ‘Wrong’

Reacting to Trudeau’s decision to prorogue Parliament until March 24, Singh termed it “completely wrong.” He criticized the Liberal government for avoiding responsibilities while Canadians face mounting struggles.

“Typical Liberals—they are shutting down Parliament and not going to work when Canadians actually need them to be working. If someone didn’t show up to work, they would get fired—that’s what should happen to the Liberals,” Singh stated.

He emphasized that the NDP would vote against the Liberal government in the upcoming confidence motion.

💬 Singh Targets Conservatives and Calls for Change

Singh did not hold back his criticism of Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party, accusing them of planning cuts to pensions, healthcare, and dental care.

“The Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre want to cut pensions for seniors, cut healthcare when people need it most, and cut dental care for children and seniors. This is a callous decision. New Democrats want to fight greedy CEOs and bring down grocery bills. We want to make housing affordable and ensure every Canadian has a fair chance,” Singh asserted.

🏠 Cost of Living and Trudeau’s Legacy

Highlighting the struggles faced by ordinary Canadians, Singh accused Trudeau and the Liberal Party of prioritizing self-interest over public welfare.

“Justin Trudeau has let Canadians down on housing, cost of living, and healthcare. It’s not just Trudeau; every Liberal MP and Minister has ignored the struggles of ordinary Canadians,” Singh remarked.

He also warned about the economic threats posed by potential US tariffs under President-elect Donald Trump, suggesting that Trudeau’s government failed to safeguard Canadian interests.

⚖️ Singh’s Call to Action

Singh urged Canadians to reject both the Liberal and Conservative parties in favor of the NDP, positioning his party as the only credible alternative.

“If you’re worried about Conservative cuts and disappointed by Liberal failures, stand with the NDP. We’re building a movement to fight for you, lower grocery costs, ensure affordable housing, and protect healthcare. This is our promise,” Singh said.

🌍 The Road Ahead for Canadian Politics

With Trudeau’s resignation and the Liberal Party leadership race on the horizon, Canada faces a period of political uncertainty. Singh’s aggressive stance positions the NDP as a key player in the upcoming elections, challenging both the Liberal and Conservative parties.

As Canada prepares for a possible summer election, Singh’s call for reform and accountability will likely resonate with voters frustrated by rising living costs, healthcare challenges, and political gridlock.

The coming months will reveal whether Singh’s vision for a more equitable and people-centric government gains the traction needed to reshape Canada’s political landscape.
