Kamala Harris Condemns Wisconsin School Shooting, Calls for Stricter Gun Laws

Vice President Kamala Harris mourns victims of senseless gun violence, urges Congress to adopt stronger gun control measures.

Washington DC [US], December 18: US Vice President Kamala Harris has condemned the tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Wisconsin, lamenting the persistent epidemic of gun violence that has once again disrupted American classrooms.

In her statement, Harris described the incident as “senseless” and mourned the loss of lives, including a student and teacher, while expressing solidarity with the injured and their families.

“Over the weekend, our nation paused to remember the innocent children and brave educators taken from us 12 years ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Today, senseless gun violence has once again visited our classrooms in Madison, Wisconsin,” Harris said.

The Vice President thanked first responders and educators for their swift action, crediting them with preventing further loss of life.

Addressing the Crisis

Harris emphasized the need to intensify efforts against gun violence, noting that it has become the leading cause of death among children in the United States.

“While we’ve made progress with the most significant gun safety legislation in 30 years and the establishment of the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, more must be done,” she urged.

She called on Congress and state legislatures to implement universal background checks, pass red flag and safe storage laws, and ban assault weapons, labeling these measures as critical steps to saving lives and making communities safer.

The Tragic Incident

At least two people were killed and six injured during the shooting at the Madison school. Investigators revealed that the shooter, a 15-year-old girl, was found dead at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident occurred just days before Christmas break, casting a shadow over the holiday season and reigniting debates over gun control in the US.
