North Korean leader urges expansion of firearms production, appears with daughter
March 12, 2026: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected a munitions factory this week, calling for modernisation and expansion of firearms production for the country’s military. According to the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim reviewed the facility’s operations and stressed that weapons manufacturing plays a key role in improving the combat efficiency of the armed forces of North Korea. During the visit, Kim also tested one of the firearms at a shooting range, describing the weapon as “excellent.”
The inspection drew additional attention because Kim was accompanied by his teenage daughter, widely believed to be Kim Ju Ae. Photographs released by state media showed the two touring the factory together and taking part in pistol test-firing sessions with senior military officials. Although the report did not mention her by name, images showed the young girl firing a handgun under supervision.
Kim Ju Ae first appeared publicly during a missile test in 2022 and has since attended several military and political events alongside her father. Analysts believe her growing presence at defence-related activities could signal preparation for a future leadership role in the country’s dynastic political system. The factory visit came a day after Kim and his daughter observed a launch of nuclear-capable cruise missiles, highlighting Pyongyang’s continued focus on strengthening its military capabilities.
