Confusion deepens after Tehran gives no confirmation, social media post surfaces

March 17, 2026: Israel Katz has claimed that senior Iranian leader Ali Larijani was killed in overnight strikes, intensifying uncertainty amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. However, there has been no official confirmation from Tehran.

According to Katz, Larijani and a senior Basij commander were “eliminated” in the strikes. Israeli officials have maintained that Larijani was among the high-profile targets in the latest wave of attacks.

Confusion surrounding the claim deepened after a post appeared on Larijani’s social media account, paying tribute to fallen Iranian personnel. The post made no reference to his own status, leaving questions unanswered about whether he is alive or dead.

If confirmed, Larijani’s death would mark one of the most significant losses for Iran’s leadership during the conflict, following the reported killing of Ali Khamenei earlier in the hostilities.

Israel has also claimed that Gholamreza Soleimani was killed. The Basij operates under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and plays a key role in Iran’s internal security structure.

With conflicting signals and no clarity from Iranian authorities, the situation remains fluid, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already volatile regional conflict.
