Masoud Pezeshkian warns Israeli strikes in Lebanon could derail fragile ceasefire efforts amid escalating tensions.
April 9, 2026: Masoud Pezeshkian has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement through renewed military action in Lebanon, warning that continued strikes could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts. Calling the attacks a “blatant violation,” he said such actions reflect a lack of commitment to peace and could render negotiations meaningless. He also asserted that Iran remains prepared to respond and will continue to support its allies in the region.
The tensions have intensified after fresh Israeli strikes in Lebanon reportedly killed over 250 people, raising serious doubts about the ceasefire announced earlier by Donald Trump. While Israel and the United States maintain that Lebanon is not covered under the truce, Iran and mediator Pakistan insist that the agreement includes a halt to hostilities there. Several countries, including the UK and France, have also called for extending the ceasefire to Lebanon.
Defending the offensive, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said operations against Hezbollah would continue, confirming strikes on key targets and the killing of a close aide to the group’s leadership. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has resumed attacks after briefly pausing, firing across the border and targeting Israeli positions. With violence escalating on both sides, the situation remains volatile, casting uncertainty over the future of the ceasefire.
