Donald Trump has said that it “makes no difference” whether the United States reaches a deal with Iran, even as high-stakes negotiations between the two nations continue in Islamabad.
Speaking to the media, Trump asserted that the US has already “won” militarily, claiming that Iran’s naval and air capabilities, radar systems, and leadership have been significantly weakened. He emphasised that the outcome of the talks would not change what he described as a decisive advantage for Washington.
The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure a longer-term agreement following a fragile two-week ceasefire in the West Asia conflict. However, negotiations have so far failed to produce a breakthrough, with key sticking points including control over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Warning To China
Trump also issued a stern warning to China, cautioning against any move to support Iran militarily. Responding to reports that Beijing may supply air defence systems to Tehran, he said such actions would lead to “big problems” for China.
According to reports, there are concerns that any potential transfer of military equipment could be routed through third countries to obscure its origin. The development is particularly sensitive as Trump is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping next month.
Talks Continue Without Breakthrough
Negotiations between US and Iranian delegations have stretched late into the night, reflecting the complexity of the issues involved. Iranian officials have described some of Washington’s demands as “unacceptable,” especially those related to maritime control and regional security.
The talks are being closely watched globally, as their outcome could shape the future of stability in the region, impact global oil routes, and determine whether the current ceasefire evolves into a lasting peace agreement.
