MEA Clarifies On US Trade Factsheet Changes

Revisions reflect shared understanding under India–US joint statement, says spokesperson

February 12, 2026: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that recent revisions to the White House factsheet on the India–US trade deal are in line with the mutual understanding between the two countries. Addressing the weekly press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the updates are consistent with the framework agreed upon by New Delhi and Washington for a bilateral trade arrangement.

Jaiswal emphasised that the joint statement issued earlier remains the foundational document guiding the proposed interim agreement on reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade. “The joint statement is the framework and remains the basis of our shared understanding in this matter. The amendments in the US factsheet reflect the shared understandings contained in the joint statement,” he said.

The clarification comes amid heightened attention over changes made to the White House document outlining the contours of the proposed trade engagement. The development underscores ongoing coordination between India and the United States as both sides work toward advancing their bilateral trade framework.
