February 13, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended his congratulations to Tarique Rahman after the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a decisive victory in Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections. In a message posted on X, Modi conveyed his “warm congratulations” to Rahman, stating that the result reflected the trust of the Bangladeshi people in his leadership.
The Prime Minister said the electoral outcome demonstrated public confidence in Rahman and his party. He emphasised that India would continue to stand in support of a “democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh,” signalling New Delhi’s intent to maintain close engagement with Dhaka under the new leadership.
Modi also expressed his willingness to work with Rahman to further strengthen the multifaceted ties between the two nations and advance shared development priorities, underscoring the importance of India-Bangladesh cooperation in the region.
