Aircraft veers off runway after technical snag, investigation underway
February 11, 2026: A passenger aircraft carrying 50 people met with an accident shortly after takeoff from Aden Adde International Airport in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. The flight was headed to Galkayo when it reportedly developed a technical malfunction around 15 minutes into the journey. The crew decided to turn back and attempt an emergency landing at the airport.
During the landing attempt, the aircraft veered off the runway and crashed near the coastline along the Indian Ocean. Dramatic visuals from the site showed the plane resting close to the shore after the incident. Emergency services and aviation authorities quickly reached the spot to secure the area and assist those on board.
In a major relief, all passengers and crew members have been reported safe, with no fatalities confirmed so far. Somali authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the technical failure and the circumstances that led to the crash.
