Pakistan PM expresses hope to deepen bilateral ties with new Dhaka leadership
February 13, 2026: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday congratulated Tarique Rahman after the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a majority in Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections. In a message posted on X, Sharif extended his “warmest felicitations” to Rahman for leading the party to what he described as a resounding victory, and also congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the polls.
Rahman’s party emerged with a clear mandate in the national elections, positioning him at the forefront of the next government in Dhaka. Sharif said he looked forward to working closely with the incoming leadership to further strengthen what he termed “historic, brotherly multifaceted bilateral relations” between the two countries.
The Pakistani Prime Minister added that he hoped to advance shared goals of peace, stability and development in South Asia and beyond. His message signals Islamabad’s intent to actively engage with Bangladesh’s new administration and enhance cooperation across various sectors.
