Large gatherings in Lucknow and Jaipur coincide with Global Quds Day observances
March 13, 2026: Shia communities across India gathered for Alvida Jumma prayers on the last Friday of Ramadan, with major congregations held in Lucknow and Jaipur. In Lucknow, thousands assembled at the historic Asafi Masjid and other imambaras to offer prayers for global peace. Many worshippers also expressed solidarity with Iran amid recent tensions in the region and remembered those who lost their lives in the conflict.
In Jaipur, large crowds gathered at the Jama Masjid and surrounding areas, with authorities estimating that more than 100,000 people would take part in prayers and peaceful demonstrations. Devotees offered supplications for justice, peace, and the safety of Muslim communities worldwide, particularly in conflict zones such as Iran.
The gatherings coincided with the observance of Quds Day, which highlights solidarity with oppressed communities. Authorities deployed security measures including traffic diversions, police monitoring and drone surveillance to manage the crowds. Despite the large turnout, the events in both cities remained peaceful as devotees carried out religious rituals during the final days of Ramadan.
