Tarique Rahman Invites Modi To Swearing-In
BNP chief set to take oath as Bangladesh PM on February 17
February 15, 2026: Tarique Rahman has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government following the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s electoral victory. Rahman is scheduled to take oath as Prime Minister on February 17 at Bangabhaban, where Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath. Invitations have also reportedly been extended to several South Asian leaders for the ceremony.
Speaking to the media, Rahman said Bangladesh’s foreign policy under his leadership would prioritise national interests and the welfare of its citizens. He described the transition as a significant moment for the country following the recent general elections, which saw the Bangladesh Nationalist Party secure a decisive mandate.
Rahman also addressed questions regarding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, stating that any possible return would depend on legal procedures. While preparations for the oath ceremony are underway, the composition of the new cabinet has not yet been disclosed.
