Trump Appoints Mike Waltz as National Security Adviser, Elise Stefanik as UN Ambassador

Washington, DC [US], November 12: President-elect Donald Trump has selected Florida Representative Mike Waltz as his National Security Adviser, according to sources cited by Reuters. Known for his strong stance on China and military experience as a former Army Green Beret, Waltz will be a key figure in Trump’s administration, responsible for advising on national security and coordinating with multiple agencies.

Waltz has previously voiced the need for the U.S. to prepare for potential conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly regarding Chinese activity. A prominent critic of the Biden administration, he praised Trump’s foreign policy approach as disruptive yet necessary to combat “bad old habits in the Pentagon.” He highlighted Trump as a vital force for change in national security circles, stating, “Donald Trump is that disruptor.”

In a series of announcements, Trump also nominated Elise Stefanik, a prominent New York Republican and current House Republican Conference Chair, as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Trump praised her as “an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter,” calling her an ideal choice for the role.

Stefanik made history in 2014 as the youngest woman ever elected to Congress and has remained a vocal advocate for conservative principles. She will now join Trump’s Cabinet in a role aimed at representing U.S. interests on the global stage.

Trump’s latest appointments are part of a historic comeback, marking his return to the White House as the first U.S. president since Grover Cleveland to serve two non-consecutive terms. Trump secured his second term after winning 295 electoral votes in the 2024 election, defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who obtained 226 votes.
