Trump Blames Biden And Afghanistan for White House Shooting Suspect, Calls Attack an ‘Act of Terror’

Two West Virginia National Guard members were shot and critically wounded near the White House on Wednesday in what authorities described as a targeted “ambush” attack. President Donald Trump swiftly blamed the incident on the “infamous flights” of his predecessor, claiming the Afghan suspect was allowed into the country under the Biden administration’s post-withdrawal program.

November 27, 2025: A shooting attack just blocks from the White House has drawn an immediate and highly political response from President Donald Trump, who used the incident to attack the immigration policies of the previous administration.

Two members of the West Virginia National Guard, deployed to the capital, were shot and critically wounded in a targeted ambush near the intersection of 17th Street and I Street NW. FBI Director Kash Patel and Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser confirmed that the two soldiers were hospitalized in critical condition.

Trump Blames “Infamous Flights”

Speaking from the White House, President Trump confirmed that the suspect in custody is an Afghan national and connected his presence in the country directly to the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Donald Trump: “I can report tonight that based on the best available information, the DHS is confident that the suspect in custody is a foreigner, who entered our country from Afghanistan, a hellhole on Earth. He was flown in by the Biden administration in September 2021, one of those infamous flights that everybody was talking about.”

The 29-year-old suspect, identified by law enforcement sources as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, reportedly entered the U.S. under the Operation Allies Welcome program, which facilitated the evacuation and resettlement of thousands of Afghans following the U.S. troop withdrawal.

Act of Terror and Policy Re-examination

President Trump condemned the shooting, which occurred while the National Guard members were on a “high-visibility patrol,” as a “heinous assault,” an “act of hatred,” and an “act of terror.”

In response, the President vowed to initiate a massive federal review of all individuals admitted under the previous administration’s policy.

“We must now re-examine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden,” he stated, adding that his administration would “take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here.”

The suspect was also shot during the incident but suffered non-life-threatening injuries and remains in custody. Following the attack, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that President Trump had ordered the deployment of an additional 500 National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. to beef up security.
