The U.S. President slammed media reports of a setback against Russia, hailing the Alaska talks as a “very successful day” and pushing for a lasting peace deal over a fragile ceasefire.
Washington DC [US], August 18 – U.S. President Donald Trump has strongly rejected claims that he suffered a diplomatic “defeat” at the hands of Russian President Vladimir Putin during their high-stakes Alaska Summit on August 15.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump lashed out at what he described as “Fake News” coverage, insisting that the summit was not only strategically important but also a win for the United States.
“For three days, the Fake News has been saying I suffered a ‘major defeat’ by allowing President Putin to have a Summit here in the U.S. In reality, he would have loved to hold it anywhere else, but it happened here, and that was a big win,” Trump wrote. “Had it been hosted abroad, the Democrat-controlled media would have spun it as a disaster. These people are sick!”
The President didn’t hold back from targeting Democrats, accusing them of fueling lawlessness. “They even want CRIME in D.C. and other Blue Cities throughout the country. But don’t worry, I won’t let that happen,” Trump declared. “Just like our now secure Southern Border – ZERO illegals in the last three months – our cities will also be safe and secure. And Washington D.C. will lead the way!”
The Alaska Summit, held on Friday, was seen as a crucial step in addressing the devastating Russia-Ukraine conflict. According to Trump, the discussions were “constructive” and leaned heavily toward a genuine peace settlement.
Calling it a “great and very successful day in Alaska,” Trump said the meeting with Putin was “really well.” Later that night, he also held phone calls with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European leaders, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Together, they agreed that the ultimate solution must be a comprehensive peace agreement, not just a fragile ceasefire. “Ceasefires often collapse,” Trump explained in his post, “but a peace agreement can finally put an end to this horrific war.”
