Washington, DC, July 14: Former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Russia on Monday, threatening to impose “very severe” tariffs on countries still trading with Moscow if the war in Ukraine is not resolved within 50 days.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “We’re going to be doing secondary tariffs. If we don’t have a deal in 50 days, it’s very simple. And they’ll be at 100 percent, and that’s the way it is.”

The former president, who is currently campaigning for re-election, did not elaborate on which countries might be targeted or the specific criteria for lifting the proposed tariffs.

Trump’s comments come amid ongoing tensions between Russia and the West over the conflict in Ukraine, which began in 2022 and has since led to sweeping sanctions and international condemnation.

While Trump’s stance contrasts with the current administration’s multilateral approach, it reflects his longstanding preference for using tariffs as leverage in foreign policy negotiations.
